FWIW, I know a guy who owns an outfitting service in east NC. He has many rifles, at least a couple in 270. His 270 load is Hornady custom (non ligh mag) 140gr BTSP. He has killed more deer than I'll likely see and at distances reported that I won't quote here. Bottomline, apparently (at least on deer) the 140 BTSP is a great bullet near and far.
