The string that Higbean refers to is a great discussion. There seems to a tendency to load the 270 Win and 300 Win Mag a little on the timid side.
An observation, not a criticism. A 130 grain bullet leaving the muzzle at 2800fps is not all that much less effective, for most hunting situations, than one leaving at 3100fps.
Variance in trajectory arguments don't hold much water as there are to many guys happily using 150 and 160 grain bullets in their 270's. With great effectiveness.
Both rounds were designed to run at the high end of the pressure spectrum, so most factory rifles in these two calibers are built to handle them as designed.
