We (seekoutside) have a prototype titanium stove where we used an ash pan concept with a little grate inside the stove. The stove was large in the 800 cubic inch range and I think was barely over a pound.

The pan /grate idea worked OK, but needs further refinement.

FWIW we are doing a slide door on our stoves and it works well.
