My poor little .257 Roberts A.I. has a 1:10" twist Schneider barrel on a Remington action that was "blueprinted" and barreled by Greg Tannel. It shoots the Hornady 117 grain BT Interlock factory ammo just a tad under a MOA, and handloads with 90 grain Sierra HPBT GameKing bullets under .5". I was really surprised at the performance of the Hornady factory ammo given that it is being fireformed in the improved chamber. So I guess a 1:10" barrel is satisfactory for most applications, at least in this rifle. Although this rifle was intended for varmint at long range, so the 1:10" does okay, erring on the side of a tighter twist is best. 1:9" or 1:8" for heavy bullets would not be a mistake.
