You might as well throw the 38spl cartridges at the bad guy - you'll get more velocity than a 38 snub I think of 3-4 9mm autoloaders that are much better than any 38 snubbie.
The 44spl is a bazzillion times more effective round.
Ultimately though, the better gun is the one you have with you - think about that.
