Not long. I don't know exactly when it came out, but it's a pretty recent offering.
I've not shot any game with it, so I can't help you there, but Hornady doesn't recommend any of their match bullets for hunting, including the A-Max. Given my experiences with the AM, MK, VLD, and others, I'd feel pretty good about slinging them through flesh.
