Who the [bleep] would shoot a deer in the ribs? That's a liver or gut shot at best. If you had shot that deer where you should have (hint: between 1/3 and just under 1/2 way up it's front leg) you would have a very dead deer.
If I was the curious type...not defending anybody in the process either, I'd wonder just how you make that shot without shooting through the rib cage.
Last I looked, the liver is behind the diaphragm, the heart and lungs in front of the diaphragm...so were the ribs too.
