I also had a 2-7 Viper that worked perfectly that I just couldn't seem to like no matter how hard I tried. Just didn't care for the sight picture and field of view.
2-7x32 right? I had the same scope. I just couldn't get comfortable with the sight picture either. It seemed tunnel vision'ish and I swear the 2x was negative magnification. The FOV was actually less than the cheap Bushnell 3x9 I have on my 22. On down the road it went.
