Postwar JP Sauers were imported by Stoeger for many years. They came in two grades, if I remember correctly, a field grade and a "Sauer Royal," which had more engraving and ejectors.
I had a field grade 16 SxS w/28" barrels that I used for upland hunting for several years that was one of these Stoeger imports made in West Germany (while there was a West Germany) in the mid-60s. Nice solid well-made double.
But you REALLY need to do your homework on Sauers--they were made for MANY years (world's 2nd oldest sporting gun manufacturer, I think) and came in many models, grades, and qualities. Several guys over on
