In mid-Michigan you were excused from school on the opening day of pheasant season by showing your license. Now there are so few pheasants here it's a treat just to see one. I used to sell ammo from open boxes at the hardware store where I worked. We had a sign on the wall over the ammo rack listing price per shell. Fellas would come in and say "Gimmee three 12 gauge high brass number 6's and three number 4's." Same with rifle ammo come deer season. Some guys would bring their rifles in to get cartridges that fit. One old guy accidentally touched off a .30-06 round into the ammo rack. Blew apart a box of shotgun shells and put a hole through the block wall and into the next building over.
