Fluoride in the water, it all started there.
I've been fortunate never to have lived in an area with fluoridated water.
Do you have city water?
My town doesn't use Fluoride in the water. Some Fluoride reps showed up at a town hall meeting several years back with a fancy presentation, and they were practically booed out of the place. Our water manager made a counter presentation on the harmful effects of Fluoride just because he had already prepared it, but no one even dared put it up for a vote.
