John or whoever, one more question, I picked up some retumbo today as it is one of the few powders easily available in my area and just out of curiosity I weighed out 50 grains and dumped it in a 243 case. Even with a 6" drop tube it came damn near to the case mouth. I am ok with compressed loads but this seems extreme. Is this normal? I plan to work up from around 46 grains but before I do I wanted to see if this sounded correct.


That has been my experience and getting 50grs into brand new WW cases takes a
slow pour with the 6 inch drop tube.

Lapua cases have a bit more room.

I think Hogdon lists 49grs as max for the 105gr bullet in a SAAMI chamber.

I get 3050fps in 26 inches with the 50grs in my throat.

The SAAMI throat is very short and steep, much like the SAAMI throat for the 7mm Rem Mag. A pretty good chance this contributes to the quirky rep for both rounds. As always pay attention.
