Dogs for squirrels? Never heard of that please explain. We always did the spot and stalk thing as kids. Only squirrels here are city squirrels and pine squirrels up in the mountains.
Dogs work well after the leaves fall, otherwise the squirrel will sit still and likely won't be seen. Spring and early fall seasons are more productive with spot and stalk. In the fall finding a hickory that is being worked and sitting in wait is very productive, especially with a .22 with subsonic ammo that won't scare the critters too badly.
