Welcome to the campfire, dragnracer1. Sorry to hear about your dad.

A bit more background on the models..

The 99F was actually first introduced as the featherweight model 1899H in 1905. When Savage changed the model names to 99 in 1921 the 1899H became the 99E (solid frame) and 99F (takedown). Don't be surprised if there is a stamp saying Savafe Model 1899 on it, Savage continued that stamp for quite a while in the 20's. It's still a model 99F. The 99F was in production up to 1941, I think.

The 99EG was introduced in 1935, and continued to be made up to 1959. It had checkering added at sn 385,000'ish, so you won't see too many uncheckered EGs compared to checkered. Probably the most common model encountered.

Savage 410 barrels were added as an accessory sometime in the 1910's and continued up through the 1930's. Oddly enough, the 410 barrel value probably isn't that much lower than either of your rifles' values.

The 99F has been drilled and tapped for scope bases, as mentioned, plus the sling swivels are after market. The 99EG looks nice, if a bit gray from being carried.
