Has anyone here installed one of these pads, that are supposed to be pre-fit? I ordered one for my 336 and was wondering if they need any major fitting. I'll post my findings when I get mine in. Don

Just did that a month ago...being somewhat anal-retentive the initial pre-fit turned out not good enough for me, so off it came and I trimmed the stock down a hair, then put it back on.

perfect now...

Thanks for input Puddle. You're telling me that the pad was smaller than the stock? Oh, tchit. Ain't no way I'm going to shape down my stock as it is in great condition and doesn't need refinishing. I'll hope for the best on the fit, and I guess leave it as is if its close. I realize there is some variance in the dimensions of those stocks, but you'd think that Pachmayr would err on the side of being too big. Let's see whut hoppens. I'll post later. Don

My gunsmith ordered one for my Marlin 1895. It was smaller than the end of the butt stock. It seemed to be close to the size of the butt stock if we had removed enough wood to keep the overall length the same. In other words, if the pad was 3/4" thick, it was the size of the stock about 3/4" from the end of the original stock. I wanted a slightly longer stock, so he swapped it for a "grind-to-fit" pad.

Yea, you'd think they'd make them a tad wider (length is usually not an issue) so you can grind them down a bit. But then I guess you can't call them Pre-fit Maybe call them "Almost-fit".

But don't panic, as I said I'm a bit obsessive and trimmed a tiny bit - perhaps it wouldn't be an issue for you?
