I just heard on the news some of the family members of some of the dead in South Carolina have said they forgive the shooter.

I don't think I could do that.

I can't fault them for following Christ's words.

I can say I honestly don't think I could go there, not for a long time, and maybe not forever.

I have long known there are folks who are better Christians than I am.

Forgiving the insane is easier than forgiving the sane.

Somehow all that sweetness pisses me off.
I'd be there asking the law to turn him loose so I could kill him.

Arbitrarily forgiving the unrepentant is likely, in itself, a type of sin.

You would have to be from this state to understand. Definitely a Southern Christian thing. Especially, with the Southern Baptist.

With most, their forgiveness is genuine. But there's always that one hold-out.

Forgiveness is for the victims, not the perp. It removes that feeling of hatred and allows the person to move on. The perp still has his own set of problems and he must answer to the Highest.

Me, I'm an Old Testament kind of guy.

Christian forgiveness is not new. In his early years, the Apostle Paul martyred Christians. In his later years, Paul did much to spread Christianity and died a martyr.

Sycamore,
I am fortunately/unfortunately cut from the same cloth. These folks are better than I at turning the other cheek.

But, I would also ask God's forgiveness if the phugger were still on the loose. If you know how to work the bamboo telegraph, it rings loudly here in Urbania.

Interesting post. I reside in both states and was very close to both of these incidents.

Appropriate side-by-side.

Difference being Malvo and his accomplice did not care who they killed.

"I take no pleasure in the killing of the wicked."

That's what He said.

But look what He's done...
All through the old covenant .

And get ready what He promised for this new one, cuz it's coming.

His mercy and love endureth forever,,,
except for all who reject them.

We're NOT from that State,....and things are viewed a bit different in ours, far as I can see.

The way I see it, the forgiveness stuff is for yourself.

Holding onto hate will mess you up after a while.

Still. I'm not sure I could be genuine about it in a situation like this.
