I'm contemplating the purchase of a mini-Mauser in 22-250 as a project rifle. I'd like to do a 6-250 as a "do it all rifle" (woodchucks to deer) using 55-90 gr bullets but unsure of mag constraints? Does anyone have experience w/ this action to know how much space is there?

If mag constraints are too tight for my first choice the other option I'd consider would be the 6 BR but I'm unsure of how that'll feed through this action. Anyone with experience there?

Thanks a lot for any insights you may have,

efw

There are some 7.62x39 actions for sale and a 6x39 would solve both problems.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

+1 on the 6ppc - would likely run on a .470 bolt face but the 7.62x39 action would be a sure thing.

A guy who I occasionally shoot with has a 22-250 Mini-Mauser, a Remington 799, with a 22" 1-8" ROT barrel that seems like a nicely balance rifle. I've never shot it, but have handled it a little at the range. He shoots 60 grain VMax and 60 grain Partitions, saying that they shoot to the same POA.

Thanks that's something I hadn't considered.

Would feed rails be different for PPC than 22-250? I'd like to do this with as little work as possible but with smooth function at the end. Not sure if bolt face mods will get me where I want to be if feed rails would be different also?

Good point on leaving it 22-250 & running shorties. That'd cut cost too...

Anyone with experience with these cartridges in that action?

The mag boxes are pretty short but can be lengthened with a little work. I don't recall how much at the moment but I believe there is a member from down under that has discussed his project before. I have one of each bolt face size. I was going to do a 250 Savage but heavier bullets would be very deep seated. I know there are 7MM BRs out there on the 22-250 that feed fine with no work to the rails. I'm going to do an improved PPC on one so I'll find out the hard way.

A 6mm wildcat on the Grendel case would work on the 7.62x39 action too.
