I have a model 99 takedown dated 1924. Does the barrel have a serial number to the gun? I can't seem to find one. I think it is a g model? It does have the pistol grip, 24 inch barrel in 300 sav with integral front sight. Thanks for any help

Sometimes the barrel has the last three digits of the serial number. It appears that most don't have it judging by the guns I've seen. If it has a pistol grip and checkering it's a 99G.

Welcome to the campfire, sagepond!
Just as a note, the barrel doesn't come off unless the bolt is open. And even then it's not a great idea to take it down too often - threads eventually become loose. Great gun though, enjoy it!

What he said. I put a film of light grease (Lubriplate) on my threads, and then only take them down rarely.
