Any thoughts on using a Tikka T3 action and trigger for a long range rig? I'll use a Benchmark barrel (won at a shooting match) and a MacMillan stock.

snipershide or longrangehunting

Go ask there.

From use here in Scandinavia, its considerd the Sako TRG-22s equal. Just a little less robust.

Here is what I would do:
- Tikka T3 action
- If using a McMillan : Get a recoil lug inbetween the action and barrel; ala Rem 700
- If using chassis.. use the chassis recoil lug.
- Spuhr mount.. fits the dovetails perfectly. You may need to remove a sliver of metal, to let casings eject perfectly.
- Alutek bottom metal : http://www.alutek.eu/iframe-bmt3std.html , uses factory mags and lets you use long action calibers.. AICS mags are available, but only short action caliber
- Lumley arms : bolt handle & Bolt shroud

Go shoot insane amounts of rounds down range.. upgrade if you see the need.

I doubt you will!!

I like the idea of using a tikka action, for one I don't think they need any truing, a port style action IMO is stiffer. The trigger is good enough when adjusted hard against the stop all the way out. The single stack mag arrangement should mean feeding will be a non issue. so its basically screw a barrel on and figure out what your doing for a stock.

no expensive trigger, or gunsmithing it. no truing of the action. no worries about feeding. those are all issues with remington based actions.

Thanks for your input so far, I won the barrel with a 4" 5 shot group at 1048 yards with a stock Tikka Tactical in 300wm, except for the Yodave spring and a steel recoil lug. Thinking of a 6mm, perhaps a 6-6.5x47 Lapua and a Mac Millan stock . A custom action (Stiller) and a trigger will run me 5-600 more than buying a new donor T3 and I'm not sure it will be of any benefit for club competitions.

Maybe consider selling the Benchmark barrel and buying a Tikka CTR in .260?
