I need to re-do my gas grill. I have used lava rock in the past, but now see there is pumice rock and ceramic rock available. If anyone has hands-on w/ any of these, would like to hear pros and cons. Thanks,

Ceramic. It is not porous and does not soak up grease.

Choose the least porous to avoid the grease getting into them. It'll end up flavoring everything you cook.

Lava rock is pumice. I haven't looked at how much it costs in bags from the box stores, but it's probably not that bad. My thought is when it gets funky, just throw it out and replace it. Years ago, I used to sell it in bulk for landscaping. Because it came from Colorado, it was very expensive here in the east and it didn't sell well so we discontinued it. But a couple of bags, here and there, might not break the bank.
My grill has ceramic rods. The problem I have is that after a couple of years they start braking. They seem to work good though.
