Got a last minute chance to hunt with a PH friend in Zim in August. Due to the continued importation ban on elephants from Zim his schedule was open in mid-August, so bucket list time. I have 2 items on my bucket list and this is one.
It'll be a PG hunt in Southern Zim for a couple of species that have eluded me on prior trips - nyala and bushbuck. If we find them, a representative impala and warthog, probably a zebra and ... such other as fortune might present us, may also be on the list.
Trying to decide whether to take a light, accurate 300 WSM that's been at my side on many hunts or a semi-classic 300 H&H.
What do the old Africa hands think?

I am NOT an old Africa hand, but when I go back for my second trip, the Model 70 300 H&H I bought for that purpose is going with me! Just my opinion of course....

I have done a bit of hunting there and I have enjoyed bushbuck the best .

WC264,, I am also NOT an old African hunter,,,I did go there a few years ago. If your choice is between those two 30 calibers...I would pick the 300H&H...I never did like the 'fire-plug' rounds. Good hunting.

Not that old, not lots of experience, but my two cents worth; hunting two animals that can be hard to find in thick cover I would bring the rifle which you shoot the best and have the most confidence in.
I have no idea what kind of terrain you will be hunting or expected distances your shots will be at but this spring my shots at Nyala and bushbuck were 285 and 280 yards. My stainless, fiberglass, Z6 scoped .325 wsm (complete with a bubba buddy)put the bullets exactly where they needed to be as both the Nyala and bushbuck slipped in and out of heavy cover. Nyala at last light bushbuck at first light.
Only two hunts in Africa beneath my belt, a big believer in guns that fit, and guns the operator has confidence in. My opinion and 35 cents will get you a phone call. All the best on your hunt and please post pictures upon your return.

Where can you still make a phone call for 35 cents?
Are there still pay phones?
Oh sorry GRF....you are in Canada...maybe you still have them up there? Been many years since I have been up there....

Yes sir I had to throw that friendly jab your way. It seems that poking the leopard is traditional campfire sport, I just had to play along. Once I get dropbox to photobucket figured I have a specific photo with a warthog and my bubba buddy just for all y'all (to quote my friends and clients from Texas). Wishing you a pleasant day sir. Take the one you shoot best and don't look back.

Thinking that now, esp because the one I'm most used to I already on the 4457. Save some time and travel. Thanks all.
