This is why you should always have plenty of slack line when handling fish or fish hooks. My brother was holding a Halibut and his friend was removing the hook. Some how the cannon ball fell, got dropped or something stupid and this is the end result. They tried to cut the hook and couldn't. Damn!  I just started prepping for our annual pike fishing trip and made damn sure all the hooks were barbless....whole bunch easier to back out that way....

That sucks. Trying to look on the bright side, at least his tetanus shot is now up to date. Plus, it could've been worse. A hook attached to a thrashing fish as well as a body part at the same time is no fun. At all.
Hope there's no nerve damage and that fella heals up quickly, with no infection.

After a friend had a big lure attach his boy's hand to a thrashing yard-long pike 25 years ago, he has since kept a pair of these Knipex "mini-boltcuters" on his boat. ![[Linked Image]](http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31-xbIf1tJL.jpg) You can there them HERE, on Amazon These 7 inch long boltcutters are expensive (44 bucks -- German quality), but are impressive. They cut anything up to a quarter inch diameter with ease, and their edges have been properly hardened (RC 64!) so according to my friend, they stay sharp forever. Anyway, I sure hope there is no permanent damage to that finger! John

i've been attached to the same leader as a 20# kingfish. had to pin it down to keep from trashing around in the boat and ended up getting bit on top of the treble hook in my finger. was fishing with a DR and he couldn't push it through for me, was afraid to. so i did it myself and clipped the barb off with some dikes.
