if i'm cooking hotdogs on the grill they go on the top rack while everything else is cooking. in the heat but not on the fire. let them cook thru and swell up a bit slowly and i season my dogs with steak seasoning. after 20min or so i put them down on the rack then roll them around to get good grill marks. i don't want the outside like leather.

Don't see them around here anymore for some reason, but I was always partial to Bryan's. Piggly Wiggly has them. My buddy swears by Bryan's. Cool, thanx. We only have three Piggly Wigglys left here and two of them are in bad areas but I'll make a special trip for some Bryan Juicy Jumbos...

... and any hotdog can be ruined by any preparation other than boiling. Besides that if you're strapped for money, you can have wiener water soup for the next meal. Mike Now theres an idea. Noodles cooked in weiner water.

I've never come across a hot dog that could stand comparison to a decent bratwurst.
Hear, hear! And topped with kraut and good mustard with a pint of ice cold lager.

Grill 'em and then put them in a simmering beer bath with onions and let 'em sit in there for awhile. Then put them on a big bun with those onions on them. But we digress.

Johnsonville? Maybe if you don't have a job.
And a good hot dog is a good hot dog. Not comparable to a brat.

I had the best this past 4th out of the butcher case at our local grocery store "Yokes". All beef quarter pounders. No idea who made them. I only eat them gently grilled.

Use to do the Hebrew beef knockwurst for years, then Nathens beef dogs now it's only Hoffman's Snappy grillers

I like Nathans and Sabrett. The best tasting hotdogs are steamed in a cart. Nothing else comes close. A good bun is important too. Walmart buns are terrible but frequently used at the outings I end up at.
A buddy of mine used to have a hotdog stand in Prescott Valley. He ordered hotdogs out of New York, 200# at a time. He was anal about stuff like that and consequently, had some really good dogs.

Oscar Meyer just came out with some new 100% Angus Beef wienners. I'll have to pick some up at HEB this weekend and give them a try.
For BBQ, the HEB brand that Roger mentioned are pretty damned good!

Hoffmans ,in Syracuse NY makes the best, they can be had at Wegmans, off the grill from Heide s in Liverpool they are outstanding, brown mustard, is best and only bad cooks steam or boil them.

Locally we had a restaurant named "Coney Island". It was in the same Greek family from the 1920's until the late 90's.
They used cheap First Prize hotdogs and put mustard, raw onions and a "Greek sauce" on top. Absolutely delicious...and you got to taste them again later on in the day. Best hotdogs around.
