Heard on Sirius Nascar channel that show host, and future Hall of Famer, Buddy Baker, is leaving his show, effective immediately. He went on to say that he was just diagnosed with a huge, inoperable tumor in his lung. Known as the Gentle Giant of Nascar, I have listened to his show for years, and always found him to be a class act. I will keep him in my prayers.

I really hate to hear of this as I was a big Buddy Baker fan as a kid. I saw him around town a lot, especially at Laney's Fish Camp. Buddy was always friendly and very approachable. All of us kids around town loved him. He looked more like a pro football player than a race car driver. My neighbor was his engine builder so I was able to get some time in the garage once in a while. Bummer deal! Prayers for Buddy and his family.

Sad to hear that. Buddy was a real charger and a fun racer to watch.
I well remember him saying he was often criticized for overusing his equipment. But, he said, if you took it easy and broke the folks always said "No big deal he wasn't going to win anyway". But if you broke while leading or almost leading they said "He probably would have won if his car hadn't let him down".
Best wishes to him in his fight with the disease.

I watched him race when I was a kid. He was a hard charger for sure. I hope it goes well for him.

Back in the day, my favorite drivers were; Buddy Baker, Freddie Lorenzen, and Dan Gurney. Just watching the Stroppe Pit Crew was another highlight. I wish Buddy a big win in this race.

Buddy drove for M.C. Anderson out of Savannah, Ga. in '78 at the same time my FIL was driving M.C.s LMS car. I got to hang out with them several times when we would take Buddy to the old Williams Seafood near Tybee Is. He is the naturally funniest man I've ever met. When we would get back, our faces would hurt from laughing at his stories. I wish him the best.
