I'm tired of trying to find jacket bullets for it , and have shot up the last of the Hornady,,,,
Have asked a few others places about jacketed stuff, but looks as if cast is whats left,, so am thinking about rechamber and rebore..

Leaning toward the 36-56 set up to use .375 stuff available now.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I'm thinking either learn to use cast bullets, or get ahold of bullet swaging equipment to make your own jacketed.
Seems a shame to change such a classic rifle at this point in its life.

the most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to.

Hawk Bullets makes several .338" flat nose bullets. Kodiak makes a .338" 200 grain flat nose.

What kind of gun is it? If it's an orginal M86 and you rebore a good barrel your wasting money. Just shoot the 210 Partition backwards.

Find a .338/.308 sabot and shoot 170 gr 30-30 bullets.

It was suggested that consider swaging your own bullets. That's what I would do since I alrady swage. If you think it's worth it it'll cost about $6-700 for dies and a hand powered press. I reccommend talking to Richard Corbin at RCECO.com.

Thanks for all the reply's, the ole man used to shoot 50cal BMG bullets backwards out of his 50 alaskan that was on a model 71 winchester, as I remember he cut the tips off.

Don't realy want to do that in my 86,, have tried sabots and their're a waste of time.

Swage'n is in the same ball park way to much money to spend just for this project.

Have sent an e-mail to HAWK to see what they can do, would like a heavier jacket, and some one mentioned Kodiak Bullets, trying to find them to ask

In my opinion, reboring a 33 WCF cuz its hard to find loads for is a real big mistake.
The 33 is a good round, an a historic one. Certainly nothin wrong with a 200gr .338" bullet at 2200 fps.
Brass is available from Bertram, or you can reform 45-70, which is the parent cartridge for the 33 WCF. Bullets are readily available- just a phone call an a credit card charge away from several manufacturers.
Some folks have this odd idea that deer an elk have grown armor over the last few decades, an unless you have shoulder fired artillery, you should forget huntin.
The 33 is as good as it always was-just build your loads with attention to detail, an youll have the pleasure of takin game with a wonderful weapon.
Good luck n good shootin

I have experience with Kodiak bullets in 30 and 35 caliber rifles, and they are a wonderful big game bullet.

Their 338 cal Flat Nose 200 grain is designed specifically for the 33 Win, and I'll bet it would be just as good! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
