Heck, almost anyone could be a sniper. Six things involved, training, training, training, and practice, practice, practice.

Ain't necessarily the shooting range practice that decides who makes the cut and who don't, either. Most folks don't have a clue about that and assume that bull's-eyes are all that matter.

I'm not one; never been one; never claimed to be one; certainly never said I could have been one, but I served with a few and know a few more.

I never had the training and often wonder what I could have done if I tried. I remember going to a command turkey shoot in 69. That would have made me twenty. Several hundred shot that day. It was 22 rifles provided by Pearl Harbor armoury. Ten shots from prone at a hundred yards and no practice rounds. I was the only one to score a perfect ten X. I won my heat against a Navy rifle teem shooter and I won the overall best score and took home two turkeys.

When I was young and steady I could shoot, 46 years later not so good. Looking back I wish I had the opportunity to see if I could have really been good before the eyes went and the hands started to shake.

Shooting is, frankly, the easy part. No offense to you or anyone else, and certainly not to any snipers but those that are/were snipers know exactly what I mean about the shooting being the easy part.

That training is intense, ridiculous, and by and large concentrates on far more than shooting.

I fully understand it is a LOT more than shooting. I was just a good shot.

So was I. I was never a 300(+) PFT, at a minimum (that's 20 deadhang pull-ups, 100 sit ups in 2 minutes or less, and 3.2 miles in 18:00 flat, or less; and generally it took a lot better score than the minimum 300 PFT). I was certainly not up to some of the other stuff that it took.

Shooting was/is the easy part.

You're assuming anyone would want to hunt with you.

I'm not sure I want to go anywhere with a guy who can't get hits at 10 yards with a 9mm and places a Glock leagues above a Sig.

I think you're right. I probably wouldn't want to hunt with Mr bfr dude, nor go on a combat patrol with him, either. And I do like the 9mm. A nice Hi Power will do.

I was thinking of trying elk with a fingernail file and just grinning a deer to death.

I would use a 45-70 but I read somewhere they won't kill a deer.

I'm going to kill deer this year by passing gas upwind.

Not so, hardest training ever to be invisible and know your gun. then you need to look in a mans eyes and shoot. I would have mo trouble to save all with me.
