I have a really nice English Whitworth rifle in 7x57 that has express sights, double trigger, and some other custom items on the otherwise factory rifle. Unfortunately, the factory stock was shortened by the prior owner and does not fit me now.

I would like to get a nice walnut stock fitted to the rifle as a full size replacement. It does not need AAAAA walnut, but I do want a metal grip cap, contrasting forend tip, and checkering like the factory (nothing uber fancy).

Does anyone have suggestions for this project that will not explode the bank?? I have something less than a $500 budget.

Thanks in advance!

For $500 one should probably order a 95% inlet and do fit and finish himself. That would at least get one a piece of fair quality wood.

You better look at a glass stock.

Sounds like my budget is off!

What should I expect to pay and does anyone have recommendations of who to talk to?

Wildfowl,
The walnut blank itself may run you out of budget... or close.
If you can add LOP to it, and that is the only change, getting a blank and sending it to a duplicator may be the only way to go to keep the cost down.
Then as funds become available maybe inletting, cap and tip.
I don't have fun-funds to put to my shotgun stock, so bondo, rasps, and extra wood splinters here and there are allwoing me to get a decent fit. Have yet to shoot my frankestock, but it will do until I can get it copied.

Talk to these guys: https://www.macongunstocks.com/

They duplicated a shotgun stock for me and did a good job. They can give you options.

I am very happy with Dave in MN. He goes by "inthe10ring" over at Mauser Central.

Have you checked with Boyds Stocks, they may surprise you.

That might find you a AAA blank, maybe, and possibly duplicated..

But, done by hand - along with the rest above - best guess is you'll be in the $1500+++ bracket.. Last one I saw (OK, it was a custom order for a .416 Rigby) that was absolutely superbly finished in every way, ran well over $5,000.. ( circa 1999)
