Springfield doesn't make a commander length. Closest they have is a four inch barrel.
That said, Springfields are solid 1911s, and I've had two Kimbers in the past, but have none now. Reliability issues. My stainless Mil Spec Springfield is second in line among my regular carry guns, and when not being carried, sits loaded as my second house gun. Solid as a rock. No issues.
Now I once had a Springer with an issue (one bought in the early 1990s), but Springfield fixed it 100%. Only reason I recently sold it was because I prefer the set up on the Mil Spec over that of the Loaded models.

Best Factory 1911 out there
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

I have two Springfield's. This one is from their custom shop, and now wears a rail and a Surefire X300 light The other is one of their loaded models, much modified, and also has a light. My son takes care of it for me

If deflave was going to buy me a 1911, it would be a Springfield.

If deflave was going to buy me a 1911, it would be a Springfield. And he would buy it from Shrapnel.

If deflave was going to buy me a 1911, it would be a Springfield. And he would buy steal borrow it from Shrapnel while Shrapnel was in the head. You might also get some .22's while you're at it.

I really like it. Very tight and a good trigger. I recently started to get FTE on the last round about 30% of the time. The extractor isn't clocking but seems like it needs a tweak. I am waiting for some new mags to come to try before sending it in. Just curious if your issue was similar? Matt

Swag,
I am aware of a number of Springfield OEM extractors losing their tension withing 900-2500 rounds. I replace them with Brown extractors, a full dimension firing pin stop and I haven't been sorry yet.

No, my issue was a failure to fully chamber a round. Sounds like you're right, I.e., yours needs an extractor tweaking. Let Springfield have it and they will fix it right up.

My Springfield WWII model would not run for crap in its stock form. After a throat job and trigger work it has been 100%, but it was a crude mess from the factory.
For the record, I would take a new Colt over a new Springfield. The new Colts I have seen have been very nicely done.

I'd take a Colt over a Springfield as well; having had both.

I've narrowed it down to either a Springer or a Sig traditional model

Nothing wrong with the Sig 1911's, but with a Springfield RO or Loaded model, I think you get a little more bang for your buck. And I actually like the S&W 1911's a little better than the Sig's.

I've had a couple of the Sigs and they have been fantastically accurate

I really really like the S&W scandium commander, but It's probably out of my price range
