? looks okay to me. Not great, but better than plain wood. This one has gathered many compliments from others. No, it's not flame burled, feathery, or marbled, black or circassian walnut, but it's reasonably good looking and quite strong.

Don't see a problem with the way it looks.

Looks oogly to me. Then again, I like the figure of the stock on the Montanas.

It boils down to what's in a name. Select Kimber French is usually pretty plain and may be Circassian instead. Wood graders are going to get a premium for better grained wood so Kimber isn't going to get much of that.

I have also been unimpressed. The wood on my M70FWT looks better than most of the Kimber Selects I have seen.

Looks fine new. But 20 years from now that oil finished soft hunk is gonna look chain beat.

I'd much rather own the stock in the picture that the OP posted than have 99% of the wood found on other factory rifles.
It's official. I missed the selfie deadline so I'm Maser's sock puppet because rene and the Polish half of the fubar twins have decided that I am.

Awful straight grain on the OP's stock....

I looked around and was able to find one that looked decent, but I agree some dont look any better than standard to me.

To me the problem is the color of the wood.
Too light, a bit pinkinsh and the figure/grain does not stand out.

My recollection is that Select is a grade above plain with straight, contrasting grain with no figure. That's what I see in OP.

When I was in my twenties I liked feathery. 30's I liked marbled, now I am 70 and love the quarter sawed pattern like your picture, it is very appealing. And the layout has the grain perfectly located running through the grip area.

StrayDog - food for thought..would we be having this discussion IF the topic was "select synthetics" instead of some really great looking walnut gunstocks. Me thinks not... Homesteader

Why ask why?? Most Kimber rifle stocks look like chit.. Just sayin..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA
