Looking for info:What is the Hornady Listed start load/powder/speed for a 270gr.bullet in the 375 Ruger?
Does any 270gr.load start at 2400 fps.?

I developed some lesser velocity loads for mine and 300 gr pills and used Varget and Re15. Depending on charge, the 300's could run in the 2300's. My 'plinking' load is 66.0 Varget under a 300 gr Hornady. Runs right at 2400 ft/sec. I also played with AA 4350, mainly because I had a couple pounds laying around, and was surprised. 75.0 grains nets 2350 and nets an inch at 100.

I looked at the 270's but after shooting the 300's see no real reason to shoot the 270's in my 375. If I was headed to somewhere after something that needed a 375, I'd use the 300 Nosler but may also consider the 270 TSX. I've shot various 270's in other 375's and don't feel any difference in recoil.

Have fun. I really like the 375 Ruger cartridge and Ruger it comes in.

Don't have a Hornady manual, but their new online data for the .375 Ruger and 250 gr. GMX bullet lists starting velocities of 2400 fps for their 250 gr.GMX bullet with 8 different powders.

Barnes online data for their 270 TSX shows starting velocities in the 2550-2630 fps range.

My own 270 gr. load for the .375 Ruger (mine is the 23 in. barreled African) is 81.0 gr. of Big Game powder, Barnes TSX, and CCI 250 primers, for a MV of 2800 fps.

Thanks I love the way the little ruger feels and handles,i just figured the factory irons were prolly set up with 270grainers50yrds...Gotta get some brass..Already have some IMR 4831 and Varget...and will try RE -15 forsure
I have some 300gr.RN softs I want to load,300grainers @2400 should knock down anything with claws and Tusk on the NC/GA.LINE...
I want to load some 260AB Nosler's as well, should be a fine firecracker load and will hunt these some if they hit where the irons are zero'd.I want to take advantage of the quick Handling and pointing of the little ruger with factory irons.
I just don't have a up -to- date manual,my Hornady manual is dated right before the .375 ruger came out.
Thanks Bigtime for the help!

All 3 of my 375 Rugers like 72 gr. Re-15 and 300 gr. bullets. A-frames, Hornady RN, Nosler Part. Hornady btsp.
All 1" or less. Right out of Nosler book. 2 Rugers have 23" barrels. Howa has 24" barrel.
Good hunting.

I have 2 loads for my 375 Ruger Guide Gun that works really well.

1. 78.5grs. of RL17, WLRP primer with a 300gr. Nosler Accubond chronographed at 2590fps. 3-shot 1/2" 100yd. group.

2. 73.0grs. of RL17, WLRP primer with a Woodleigh 350gr. PP bullet chronograghed at 2391fps. 3-shot 1" group at 100yds.

Note: The Guide Gun has a 20" barrel.

Whats the lowest listed Hornady load for the 300Gr.bullet?
I have a bunch old 375H&H 300gr.softs I reloaded with 63gr. and 65gr.Varget ...I want to pull the bullets and use them and the powder to make a few 375 ruger loads ....is the 66gr.varget a start load for the 300grainers?
I agree with you guys a ".375 300 grain bullet will be perfect for anything big and tough".
Thanks

I own a Ruger .375R, and a Weatherby MKV, .300 Wby.

Here's some recoil data from my ballistics calculator:

375
9 lb. rifle weight, 270 gr. bullet, 83 gr. powder weight, MV 2800 fps:
Recoil: 46.25 lb., recoil velocity 18.19 fps.

300 Wby
9 lb. rifle weight, 180 gr. bullet, 80 gr. powder weight, MV 3200 fps:
Recoil: 31.9 lb., recoil velocity 15.1 fps.

I don't mind shooting either of these rifles, but the .375 Ruger hits with a third more recoil, and 3 fps more recoil velocity. Hardly a push......

The recoil does in fact feel like a tolerable shove to me regardless of what the numbers say. I can (and have) done 40+ shot sessions at the range without much soreness. I just won't shoot it prone wink

The biggest problem I face with the rifle is that now I don't have much excuse to buy another big game rifle. What was I thinking . . .

I agree with you 100%. The 375 Ruger Guide Gun is a shove and if you wanted 1 gun to hunt big game it would be the one for me.
