You and I need to have some side discussions on SD hunting. I would seriously like to learn more about the options and talk about what the hunt would be like. I think I'm ready to try to jump in with Keith on a Wyoming hunt too, in 2016 if he'd have me.

You needed to start applying about 11 years ago to get a tag to hunt by Ryan. grin

You are right Tom if you are wanting to get a crack at a mule deer in some of West River. My nephew had 7 preference points in Harding County and didn't draw an any deer tag. He now has 8 points for next year!!

Whitetail tags are a better bet to draw. Both my son and I drew them in Perkins County with 0 preference points this year.

I would have given up by now if I wasn't $80 in, with points between WR and BH's. grin

I know it will happen sometime, I just wish it would hurry up and get here!

I have a favor to ask of my fellow chickenbuckers... We have lost a great man and our family could use a few prayers because it will never be the same.

Tonight at 9pm, Peter Stelmacher; grandpa to my children, father to their mother, husband, my FIL and very much a father figure to me. He died of natural causes, after about 12 years of health aliments. He was a football coach at the U of WI Stevens Point, a chef, and ran his own catering business for 20 years.

He had been in bed in his home, motionless for 48 hours... Tonight, my boy Jack called his mom after football practice, who was in WI to be with Papa Pete. Pete hadn't moved at all for 2 days. Jack's mom put him on speaker phone, so grandpa could hear about his practice. You see, Jack, was chosen as one of the team leaders tonight and wanted to tell his mom about it.

As he was telling this story to them, I got a text from Betsy (Pete's daughter) and DeeDee (wife) at the same time that said Pete could hear Jack and was obviously responding to the call. He was squeezing Betsy's had as Jack finished the story. He passed about an hour and 1/2 later.

He was one of the best hunters I've known. A true throwback to the old style of hunting the big woods. He could sneak through the woods, carrying that Remington Model 76, which was a birch stocked 760, and not make a sound. He was a HELLOVA still hunter. One of the best I've seen. I mean, almost NO noise on a crunchy November forest floor. I'm honored to have spent 15 deer camps with Pete and his brothers. I've learned more from him about the woods than I have time to share.

As good as a hunter as he was, his heart was with musky fishing. He'd rather spend time doing that than almost anything else. He was also a friend of our very own Grizzly_Bill. They were from the same home town, fished a lot of the same waters, and hunted deer only about 1/2 hour apart.

I had a blast of Jim Beam for him tonight. I'll cast a line in his honnor this fall. This will be Jack's first year to carry a deer license. You DAMN right that Remington 30-06, model 76 will be slung on my shoulder, until he's big enough to use it.

Tight lines Papa Pete. We love you.

Thank you guys. I appreciated it greatly. The kiddos are still soundly sleeping so I'm happy about that. They had a pretty tough night!

He was ready...he was sick for a long time.
