At my LGS today, I found a year-2000 JM Marlin Model 444P (ported 18.5" barrel) with a big-loop lever. It seemed to have a very reasonable price on it, and my cursory examination didn't find any noticeable damage or wear. What do you suppose a rifle like that would go for in your neck of the woods? I might have to go back Monday and buy it. Thanks.

If the price is reasonable, buy it. It will never go down in value from a reasonable price. I just looked at your location. If it had been specific and close to me, you would have someone competing with you for the gun! I suspect there are some dealers out there who aren't aware of the breadth of the fervor over JMs.
