Sunday morning for the Montana lopener I hiked into a neighbor's ranch a little over a mile from the road. In the past this had proven to be a dandy location and so it was. Found a group of around forty lopes with one real corker in the mix. As I was laying contemplating a stalk, three yahoos 1/2 mile away opened up on them... all told something like 20 shots rang out with not one antelope hit... WTF!

Sooo, walked back to the truck and drove back to our place. I crested a ridge on the road where I could glass the ranch and spotted a lope about a mile off, out on a big hill bedded by himself.

Parked the truck and proceeded to see how close I could get. At the 547 yard mark there was no way to get closer. The lope was watching me across a big open draw but remained bedded, apparently feeling secure. I pulled off the daypack and created a little shooting nest. The wind was light and coming directly at me from the SE. I waited for my heart and breathing to get closer to normal and pressed the trigger.

One dead lope at 10:05 a.m. Shot took him high breaking his spine:

Very nice Brad. One of those rifles is at the very top of my "need" list.

Way to break in that Kimber, that 180 is a chunk of change to be throwing out there.

Light rifles work at long range don't they!
I'm getting spoiled by them.

Don't you know you can't shoot that far with those silly dots in your scope?

Nicely done! I was worried about that Kimber, but now can see it was unfounded.

Nicely done!! How was the weather, I know a couple of guys that passed because it was so wet out here yesterday. I'm off to Hysham this weekend and really hope that some of this has dried out otherwise it'll be a miserable trip.

Congrats on a nice 'lope.

Isnt that gun too light to make such a long shot???

Just wondering what you did to aim correctly at that range. I assume you didnt simply aim x inches high. Military dot, Boone and Crockett, adjusted clicks on scope???

Great job Brad. Montana for Montana. Nice ring to it.

That is a nice turbo goat.

Take a look here...

Brad's scope

Thus my comments about not being able to make a shot that far with dots.

Nice work Brad. Sorry about the screwed opportunity due to the other guys. One of the reasons I went exclusively to the bow for 'lopes. congrats.....

Very nice shooting !!! I don't think I'd have tried that shot with my "light" rifles. It's odvious you did your "homework" for that one. E

I can't figure why you couldn't get any closer--looking at the first photo you can tell the goat ain't got back legs. Should have been a pretty simple sneak.
