The rheostat leaves a lot to be desired. Not able to set the illumination low enough to not interfere with your eyes natural night vision, so the brightness of the illuminated reticle washes out your target.
S&B Zenith is the reigning King, but for considerably less the Leupold VX-R works extremely well.
Another thought, if the intended application is for night hunting within 150 yards, digital NV scope works pretty damn good for just under 500. Take a look at the Sightmark Photon XT line. Pair it with an IR illuminator and you're in business...
