So my Doc broke me down at my physical, and convinced me to get my first-ever flu shot. Thereafter...

* 3 hours: large lump in throat + stuffy nose
* 4 hours: fever
* 6 hours: severe red eyes & ocular drainage (as if I'd had a handful of sand thrown into each)
* 7 hours: muscle & joint aches & pains that prevented me from sleeping.

The symptoms persisted for about 20 hours before abating. I've been told it's impossible to get the flu from the flu shot, but it sure as hell felt like it. Was my body just ramping up to fight a battle that didn't come?

The real flu won't be gone in 20 hrs, what you picked up was virus somewhere along the way at the Dr.s office. The flu will hang around for 10 days or so and you'll have fever for a handful up to a week.

You could have picked up a virus off of a

Door handle
Waiting room chair
Sign in Pen
etc....

I had the exact same thing happen years ago with the flu shot. I went back to the doc & she explained that I probably had some virus that my body was fighting off & the flu shot kicked it into high gear. Regardless, it put me on my a$$ for a couple of days. That was the last time I took a flu shot.

Yup, pretty typical reaction to the shot.

The nasal mist is twice as worse for me, and will start feeling the effects within minutes.

If you had been getting a flu shot every year, you probably would not have had that reaction, either. You essentially sprung a new one on your immune system.

just got mine for this year last Saturday am at the local Wahlgreen's. same pharmacist gives to me every year.

this year she sold me the supercharged version for the same price as the standard version.

a flu shot is worth it's weight in mercury to ward off a flu virus.

I dunno exactly. she said it was especially designed for folks 65 and over, and recommend for us older codgers. something about the varieties of flu virus in the solution, maybe?

she had plenty of both kinds in stock, so it's consumer choice kind of thingy.

It is your immune system indentifying and building antibodies to protect you from the flu. It's temporary. Jorge says 3 fingers of MacCallen 18 you will cure it.

Reactions from a vaccination are easier to take then the real flu. Don't ask, it wasn't pretty.

I have been getting flu shots for years, but never had any reaction. Hope that holds true for this year too.

That's what the 25,000 - 30,000 people who died of the flu in the US last year said.

I read that figure in the newspaper yesterday. I can't vouch for its accuracy, and it does sound high. But lots of people DO die of the flu - and just about every last one of them refused to get the shot. On the other hand, I doubt if a single person died of the shot.

Flu shot every year since I can recall, since family members were at risk.. have NEVER had any kind of reaction, so its obvious that its not the shot that does it.
