Keep planning to thin the herd , but walked into Sportsmans Whse and spotted a NOS vanguard 1, counter guy agreed to $289 and I couldn't resist. Luckily I'm well stocked with270 components and had a scope rings and bases to fit so no further outlay. Not a light weight but not bad and despite their reputation this one has a pretty nice trigger. Look out deer here I come.

Last year, Tide Jr, and I were talking about a new rifle for him. We discussed different cartridges, and he said he wanted to try a .270 for awhile.

I picked up an old Remington Sportsman 78 off Gunbroker a couple of weeks back, and I've been getting it set up for him to use this fall.

He turns 18 in just under 2 weeks, so I guess this will be his birthday present.
