That's nothing. There is a .338 LM necked down to .224 down here.

what bullet will hold up to those fps even a tsx would be in danger of up set in a heavy fog. i do not know of a cup and core that is tough enough to take the rpms. In 264 the throat would only last about 300 shots or so.

Pac-Nor lists 6.5x50BMG on their list of wildcat chambers. Holyyy balls.
I've also heard of at 6.5x300 Ultra Improved.

264wm,
Are you still thinking about this one. Recently when I did a 7RUM necked to 6.5 with the shoulder pushed back about like a .338RUM I could only get fired brass. I am thinking of having it rechambered to the .338 Lapua Magnum so I can get new brass.
Do you know where I could get a single .338 Lapua brass to measure?

Think it would hit the 6000 ft mark.

Think it would hit the 6000 ft mark. A powder burning cartridge could never reach 6000fps as powder only expands at about 5000fps meaning regardless of the powder burnt and the weight of the bullet roughly 5000fps is the max.

If I was going to build some crazy wildcat, I'd look at the new 195gr 7mm from Berger. Would be pretty wicked with RUM/Lapua case capacity.

I guess .264 Win Mag is not enough of a good thing?

I guess .264 Win Mag is not enough of a good thing? It slowly taught Americans to accept the .26 caliber. In America if a little is good a lot is better !

I never thought I would say this: but even that might be a wee bit overkill!

Cowboybart,
I'm not so much interested in maximum velocity as I am in tougher brass so I get longer life at whatever the accuracy node is. I'm hoping someone can tell me if the .338 Lapua brass is tougher than Remington RUM brass.

Kirby Allen has a lot of those types. He had them I'm pretty sure. He also lists expected velocities: www.apsrifles.comHe lists the 140's at 3550, but he uses the 338 RUM. Considering the RUM & Lapua are basically ballistic twins, I assume that should be close.

I found a bag of new 7RUM and a bag of new .300RUM. I thought all the stuff I purchased from our .com friends was used. Tomorrow I will start with some food stuff! If I get an accurate load at 3,450 with Barnes LRX 127 I will be happy.
