To piggy back on the OP's question has it been tried in .300 Savage. Supposedly it should be ideal for the cartridge.

Rem 700 Classic 300 Savage 24" factory barrel/chamber

WW brass
Sellier & Bellot 5.3 LR primer
Sierra 150 Pro hunter at 2.71" oal
IMR4166

38.9 grains --> 2462 fps
41.5 grains --> 2628 fps
42.6 grains --> 2695 fps (sub MOA)

Note the overall length is about a tenth over what you'd need for a '99. At 2.71" there was enough room for the powder to shake a bit, so there shouldn't be too much compression at 2.6".

What is your source? Been looking for info on that powder and thus far until your post haven't been able to find anything.

I have tried it, but haven't gone far with it yet From what I have seen I like 4451 better. It might be pretty good in .223.

The latest Hodgdon loading annual manual has some info for all the new Induron powders. Mule Deer has an article in that annual manual on the 4166, having tested it on several calibers, the 30-06 being one. I found no load data in the article for the 30-06. Makes me think he wasn't satisfied with it as a suitable powder.

358, in looking at the Hodgdon burn rate page in the manual, it shows:

4166 with a similar burn rate to 4064

4451 with a similar burn rate to 4350

and

7977 with a similar burn rate to H1000

The article by Layne Simpson uses IMR4451 in the 30-06 but I can't find any data on 4166 in this manual.

Just a bit of friendly razzing, I have done the exact same thing before and probably will again.

358Win,

While I haven't tried 4166 in the .30-06, it has worked well in the 10-12 other cartridges I've tried it in so far, some of which have been similar. It would probably be especially good with 150's in the '06.
