When loading the same weight Nosler Solid do you use the same data as your Nosler Partition load? I have a darn good 260 grain Nosler Partition load, 70 grains of IMR 4064 in a Win case with Fed 215 Primer that yields 2710 fps avg velocity with single digit ES.

If you typically use the same data, does it yield similar velocity/POI?

What little I played with solids; I found the solids produced more pressure & velocity when using the same powder charge as the softs. Finding when I reduced the charge by approx. 2 grains I achieved the same velocity & approx. the same POI.

This was NOT with Nosler bullets but with Hornady 300gr bullets while using RL-15.

Nosler claims on their website: Designed for same point of impact as Nosler Partition bullets of same weight.

But when You look at their loaded ammo you'll see the 300gr 375H&H Solid is loaded 100fps faster than the Partition? So I'd give Nosler a call & see if you can find someone there that knows the answer/suggestion.

Thanks. Best answer on three listings. I wouldn't have thought that the Hornady's would act that way, DGX/DGS.

The Nosler offerings are two totally different creatures.

I am going to check the Nosler website and give them a call.

The Hornady bullets were before the DGX/DGS. FMJ-RN & Soft RN along with the BTSP all 300gr bullets showed different velocity with the same RL15 charge.

Mike,

The only way to find out what they will do in your rifle will require a trip to the range.

I have never used Nosler solids or partitions but I have loaded Hornady FMJ and Spire Point or Interbond bullets. I also have no pressure measuring equipment so I can't tell you if the pressure was significantly different; just that I used the same load for both types of bullets and the pressure was safe.

My experience with a 458 Lott and a 375 H&H Magnum was that solids were a bit more accurate and hit about the same place at 100 yards as the soft nosed variety.

In a 378 Weatherby Magnum, I use Barnes TSX and Banded Solids with the same powder charge. The Banded Solids were the most accurate and both types of bullets hit about the same place at 100 yards.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if there is a pressure/velocity difference between the various types of bullets but that would become more obvious at longer ranges.

Straight from Nosler Customer Service:

Mike,

Yes as long as you are using the same lot of powder, and same brass you should be just fine to use the same load, as the solid was designed to replicated the same pressures as the Partition given the same load. It is good to hear the Partitions have worked so well for you, and we appreciate your business.

Best regards,

Nosler Inc.
