Have a pretty good deal offer on Buck knives.

Let's just assume starting from scratch (which I ain't, as I've far more steel than I need), which ones would you look for and why - for hunting, especially.

Figure on up to a half-dozen, jfsag.

I like the #102 Woodsman and the #105 Pathfinder styles, with about a 45/55 split between the #102 and #105.

Pair up a 110 folder with a 124 Outdoorsman. Just about everything you'd need for under $150.

That's if you like the nickel-steel bolsters like me- hate that brass tarnishes but that's JMHO. I like their custom 110s though.

Good evening to you sir, I trust this finds you and yours well - it's been too long since we've talked and I apologize for that.

We've been pretty happy with the Vantage Pro line of knives from Buck with the Paul Bos heat treated S30V blades.

They lock up well, are very easy to clean out and hold an edge remarkably well.



I like them so much I picked up two of the Pro series for me and a couple of the smaller Vantage blades for the girls in HC420.



Anyway sir, those are my votes for favorite Buck at present, but after being quite impressed after touring the factory years back I can say they likely make quite a few good to very good blades.

I'm a standard, eastern-U.S., deer field dresser, (as opposed to gutless or Elk/Moose/Bear field dressing) so my preferences are gonna be oriented towards that.

My hands-down favorite is the 103 Skinner. Loved it every since I first laid eyes on a picture of one as a youth. Bought one for my 18th birthday and still have it. Its handle fits me like a glove, I love the shape of its blade, and in spite of a lot of experimentation over the years... it's my go-to knife.

Haven't owned either one yet, but I'm thinking if I weren't so attached to the Skinner, I could make do with only the 102 Woodsman or the 105 Pathfinder, probably leaning towards the Pathfinder for its extra inch of length as an all around knife.

I really like the lines of the newer 113 Skinner, but haven't bought one yet. The 673 Bucklite MAX small is a really nice, sweet-feeling, inexpensive knife and I do have one of them.

I've grown to really like my 119 Special for its extra reach, but as long as we're throwing in more knives than we actually need... you really need a 120 General! Don't know exactly what you do with one, but they really look cool! I did use one last year to field dress a whitetail, just to prove it could be done.

Might could throw the 124 Frontiersman in that category too, although I greatly prefer the lines of the 120 General.

I like Buck knives and have accumulated several of them over the years. For deer cleaning I like the 118 the best - smaller blade than the 119 or 105 (similar in size to the 102) but with more handle (same size as the 105). Bhemry gave a good description of the various models - here are mine all together for a group photo and my Buck 118. I don't like the sheath that my 118 came with, so I carry it in my pack - the current 118 has a much improved sheath. Odessa

If you want a fixed blade, go with the 102 or the 105....I would probably get the 102. If you want a folder, the 110 is the obvious choice. Why? I like a smaller blade for hunting and unlike most, I like clip points.

I used a 110 last night to gut, skin, and quarter up a deer. It made me wonder why I have so many other knives. They are the bolt action 30-06 of the knife world. Everyone has one, no one will ooh and ahhh over it, but it just plain works for most everything.

I used the 102 exclusively back when I used to skin Coyotes in the field. I love that little knife.
If I told you how many Coyotes I've skinned with it someone would call me a liar so I won't.

My 1st was a #119 and I really like the #112 it is smooth and locks up like a bank vault!

Thanks for the compliments - been slowly gathering them since 1976 - but many in the last five or six years.

Anyone ever use a 107 scout?

Vantage pro force s30v is my edc and worked great field dressing and quartering a doe last year. No complaints.

Used a 102 for a couple decades and a few dozen animals, now using a 105 that I like a little more for cleaning deer, etc. I like the old foldover sheaths, no chance of it coming out or the handle banging the gun stock. I also wear it on my left side, though I am right handed, again to keep it from bumping the rifle stock.

This thread got me to digging through boxes in the garage. The first fixed blade knife I ever purchased back in my Boy Scout days was a Buck 105. I still have it but haven't used it in years - maybe that needs to change...
