Back in 2002 I bought a very fine Peterson St. Patrick's Day edition pipe from a tobacconist on Alvarado St in Monterey. I've since lost the pipe somehow (several PCS moves always seemed to liberate me of things).

Been thinking I need to get another. Thought I'd throw the discussion open to others.

I've only ever smoked the Peterson - what do you like? Pipe or tobacco.

I've had a Peterson or two over the years never really like them and their odd lipped bit, I started smoking a pipe in college and am now 65. I have come to prefer Dunhill's and Comoy Blue Riband, with a Custombilt or two thrown in just because I like there rustic appearance. As far as pipe tobacco goes I am a confirmed English blend smoker preferring Dunhill My Mixture 965 when I can find it in bulk. The stuff in the tin smokes hot and is stronger than the bulk. Occasionally I like a blend with cigar leaf, I have some that I am currently smoking. Pipe smoking is kind of a dying pursuit, not that many good pipe shops at least not in my area. Google "Pipe Smoker's Forums", there are several that have lots of interesting informative stuff.

Wow, flash back. I quit in '90 but my Petersons were among my favorites.

English blends when I wanted to irritate people, Tinder Box's Norse Gold the rest of the time.

I wasn't a regular smoker - just a treat once in a while. Same with cigars back in the 90's.

Kind of thinking I need to treat myself some more...

Lots of good pipes here: pipe smokers forum

Plus advice. Myself, I like Three Oaks Latakia. Prefer aromatic? Then score some Cult Blood Red Moon.

I smoke this almost exclusively. No bite, and no complaints.

If you haven't smoked a pipe in many years, why start now. The chance of getting, lung cancer, tongue or cheek, throat cancer is very high.

I like Creme Brulee from Pauls Pipe Shop in Flint, Mi. No bite , great taste and aroma.

It seems to me that the rough finished pipes smoke cooler.

I've never smoked a pipe, but this thread brings back memories from when my favorite uncle was alive. Loved the smell when he'd lite his pipe after supper...

I quit the day I had a heart attack in '06. Still have all my pipes though which includes a nice Peterson smile I favored Savinellis, Meerschaums, and Penzance.

I used to smoke both cheap and fine pipes all the time. Had a collection of around 30 sticks. But I found overtime they were not good for my dental bite and gave them up.

Guess if you can keep the pressure off your molars then they're okay. But mine actually started to feel impacted and I developed a bad grind habit from the pipe itself.

I do miss a good bowl of nothing more fancy than Captain Black.

Memories of my grandfather right there. Miss the smell, especially after holiday meals.

I've smoked pipes for over thirty years this last go-round. I've got a couple Petersons, a Dunhill, and two that were bought as "seconds" from different unknown makers.

I smoke English - a clone of My Mixture - in one of the "Seconds" and A Lane bulk mixture,QE 1, in one of the Petersons. The other three don't get much use since I usually smoke only a couple of bowls a day. English in the morningand the Lane in the evening.

The "My Mixture" clone is a Cornell & Diehl mixture called "Tuggle House". I like it better than the Dunhill original, which is NOT like the REAL original from 25years ago.

Pipes and Cigars.com is where I buy mine.

I'm pretty sure that my favorite pipe is a "Savinelli" second, but they don't put their names on the.

The 250 dollar Dunhill, a gift, is a big disappointment. It never has caked right, even after many start overs in the last 20 years.
