Looking at a couple of fwt yesterday one has a cut stock with recoil pad and the other has a refinished stock. Which one's value is more affected. I know personally i would rather have refinished stock but that's just my opinion. Thanks Ricky

Affect on the value will be the same.....

If it is to be a shooter, it shouldn't matter. Get the one you like. Depending on caliber you might prefer the one with a recoil pad added. Mine in .30-06.

I'm not buying either I was just wondering which of the two would you choose and why. I have a lead on a 270 fwt and hopefully I can get it. Tks Ricky

In the world of "fwt's", theres only 1 that I'd pick. However, the OP just doesn't get the fact that they made many "fwt's". The ones made from '55-63 are my favorites...I am like Pal and can live with a nice rifle with a recoil pad installed. Hell, sometimes it makes them better. Like with his 30-06 for example. I'm sure it's much more pleasant to shoot than my aluminum butt plate 30-06. To the OP, this is a pretty vague question. This is my vague answer to it...

I still have a flinch from shooting the Weatherby .460 Magnum. So a recoil pad is essential.

I hear you pal, there's a reason they put them on heavy kickers... I prefer them on anything bigger than a 270 or 308 win...

I would choose the refinished rifle. When it comes to resale, both rifles would probably bring about the same, but a pre-64 with an uncut stock, and its original buttplate, beautifully refinished, will always sell much more quickly than one with a cut stock and recoil pad. Plus, if that pad doesn't look brand spanking new, then the price will be dragged down further.
