What possible explanation did they offer for it going back and forth?
Was the FFL closed when they attempted delivery or something?

I'm curious, if nothing was ever said (not that it has helped so far) how long this would go on for?
I had USPS pay off on a vintage Gibson guitar before they found it three months later sitting in a post office in Michigan. It was going from Texas to Florida.

Mike There was no attempted delivery. It never left Memphis for my local post office. They say the machine in Memphis is reading something wrong and sending it back.

Well, it was within 100 miles of me on the 25th and the 1st. After 47 phone calls, 4 people and assurance, it's left Memphis again and just arrived in Springfield, MA.

Local Postmaster just called. He has been GREAT to work with.
It arrived in Memphis at 2pm today, he called and talked to someone and asked them to get the box and physically put it in the bin for his mail. She said, 'but there could be 1000 packages.'
He told her it's going to have to be done at some point so today is as good a day as any. She found it, placed a piece of tape over the FROM address (so the TO address is the only one visible) and put it in the bin for the local post office.
So it SHOULD be delivered tomorrow.
It had sorted to go back to Springfield, MA again.
