I've got a 99 made in 1951 in .300 Savage That I'm thinking of having refinished to my tastes. Not meant as a collector piece , but as a beautiful hand me down to one of my sons as a treasured deer rifle !

When did they? Never. Do they exist? Yes, undoubtedly done aftermarket. But, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the factory may have conducted a couple of experiments in that regard.
Due to the very thin side walls of the receiver, doing a case hardening thereof would be a risky venture, IMO. Lots of chance for warpage, and the shape of the receiver doesn't lend itself to easy fixturing to prevent it.

They definitely did a few 1895's, seem to recall they did a couple of early 1899's. But nothing since then done by the factory as far as we know. After market there's a few. But the guys who have looked around have been unable to find any current gunsmiths that will try a 99 receiver.

The 1895 catalogs don't show cased receivers. My 1895 1/2 octagon has a faded case receiver plus high grade wood and a hard rubber buttplate. It's in one of the photos of my 1895 octagon barrel thread. I've also seen one or two others.

I have a case colored 1895, and my brother has one also. There very light now most of the colors are gone.I was told Marlin made a few over 100 case colored model 1895 Savage rifles. I dont know of any Savage built 1899's or 99's that are case colored. But that goes back to Savage "never say never"!!

I have one of the faded case colored 1895's also. Suspect others have them but they are not sure what one looks like. Never heard the 100 number before but seems very possible to me. Thanks to Loggah.
