Local Armslist has a 1936 action re-barreled by Winchester with a 1957 243 Featherweight barrel. Stock is for standard barrel not featherweight. Seller says barrel is stamped by Winchester after re-barrel.

Does this have value or is it a parts gun?

Unless he has some documentation I would treat it as a parts gun. Quite sure I would not pay a premium for it even with documentation!

Sounds like a shooter, I don't believe in tearing them down to sell as parts even if that brings more money. As is it is kind of a mongrel and has no collector value.

An all original in good shape would stay that way at my house, or as likely get sold to someone who wants one that way. However, a shooter that is not all original stands a very good chance of being modified further (stock, possibly barrel) to make it more usable for hunting, for me.

According to Rule, Winchester did barrel changes and stamped a 4 digit code on the barrel. Seller claims the barrel is marked.

It should have more than just a barrel swap, it should most likely have a shorter magazine put in and a different bolt stop and ejector. If it's documented it's worth more than a normal parts gun but IMHO not as much as if it was an original 243 and certainly not as much as an original 1936.
