I'm pretty green with AR's and I'm looking for a red dot/holographic to put on top of an AR. Looking for something with a 2-4moa dot that will be reliable but not break the bank. AR will be used for range fun mostly.

All I use is aimpoint. I found an Aimpoint Pro around Christmas time for around 390.00 if I recall correctly? The bushnell trophy worked well on my friend's AR and muzzleloader but it is "bulky"!

Based on recommendations from folks here, I bought the primary arms micro and I really dig it.

I have a bushnell trs-25 on one AR. Like it so much I just ordered another for another build I'm doing. Got it for $70 with free shipping from PSA.

I can shoot 1" or nearly 1" groups off the bench with my Holosights at 100. Have also proved to myself they are the fastest thing I can aquire a running target with via hunting hogs with a handgun. I like Holosights best.

I have had the $70 Bushnell from PSA for a few years now and really like it.
I also have the Primary Arms micro. They are very similar, but I like the PA a little better. (Orientation of the brightness selector and the dot seems a little more clear to me.) IIRC it was $80 plus shipping.
They have both held zero well.
Last Monday I ordered the PA micro with the 50K battery life. It was $170. (It should be showing up soon.) If you order from PA you can add a mount for $10 that fits the removable base and would provide and even stronger mount.
Yes, I would have liked an Aimpoint. I even found a new T 1 for $515 with an AD mount, but the $320 difference buys a lot of bullets and for my uses, the PA should work fine.

Spent a lot of time at my LGS, I think I'm going to hold off until I can afford a Trijicon 1-4 with the green tipped post. Amazing optics and that tip of the post works just like a red dot but no battery needed.

Buy once, cry once.
Quality is not cheap and none of the Asian copies are worth the "bargain" prices they are asking.
I do have to say though that the Trijicon works great in full sun but will not work as well in the dark.

Lots of Aimpoint fans out there, but can attest the eotech is one tough muther. Some dont care for the circle style dot on the eotech though and they tend to migrate to the aimpoint. Personal preference thing, as both are great optics.

If I were buying an optic for an AR today it'd be this one. http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-1-4x24-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P78365.aspxThe Micro's are Uber in the red dot department. If somebody gave me an EoTech, I'd be pissed. Travis

Wasn't Stick all horned up about a similar model from them?

More than a few are "horned up" with the SWFA SS scopes. If you don't mind the weight, there's nothing else out there that comes close for the price.
I've tried several do it all optics and have came down to this; Nothing beats a red dot for what red dots do. I prefer Aimpoints. A daylight bright illuminated low power variable comes close but is far more versatile for hunting uses. I like my VX6 1-6 Firedot but the above 1-4 wouldn't be a bad option, I just wish the dot was brighter. The Trijicon fiber optic and tritium technology is good but weak when used at night with a light. It can be too bright during the day but a cover for the fiber optic tube is easily made. A regular scope works just fine for 90% of the time.

Got mine last year on their Black Friday sale. If you can wait a month, you can save some serious $$...

I'm a big fan of Leupold's Mark AR series for ARs, and like them on my hunting rifles as well.
I noticed today that the Holosun micro red dot is now available with a circle/dot instead of just dot only. Other than that it looks to be the same as the Primary Arms MD-ADS, with 50K hour battery life. I'm thinking of trying one. Any feedback on these?

Kimber,
What did they sell for last year?

eotech, don't like having to turn it on and off, tried and sold it.
SFFA scope 1-4 is a good deal.
Aimpoint "the" only red dot I trust on MY "home defense" rifle.

After using several Eo-thingies and having the last model I had shut down from recoil, the Aimpoint is the only red dot I'll trust my fun to.
