Got a chance to get out for PA Senior doe hunt, got to take my thirty-thirty out for a walk. Saw a couple of squirrels, but that was it. Now will have to wait until after Thanksgiving for regular season.

made it out with the stick and string this morning, saw 32 deer total, had 2 small bucks within 15 yards of me but I let them walk. no big ones to be seen anywhere this year, kinda odd. gonna give it a week or two for the rut to kick in and see if that helps.

Great weekend with Tom and the boys!

We did a little grouse hunting, some cabin dwelling, bonfire, wheeler riding... good weekend.

We managed to collect 3 birds and today we had the boys build a little fire which we eventually cooked the birds over (as a soup)

I cut the birds up into soup meat while the boys built the fire.

Each of the boys added a portion of the soup recipe.

check out the wild bird to the right of the boys at the end of the bench. a "whiskey jack" stealing some chunks of pan cake that we had put out for the birds.

Joey is driving the bloody death soaked Polaris. (we used it to haul his deer out of the woods a short while ago during youth deer hunt)

You guys know how to take care of your boys and teach them well. You always make them the priority, and it will show up favorably in their development as sportsmen, and as good fathers themselves. Nice set up at your camp for cooking outdoors on a perfect N. Minnesota fall day, complete with fresh grouse, and visit from a camp robber bird….Can't get much better than that!

Was there much for scrapes showing up yet?

I did see a few scrapes this past weekend,on my hunting grounds in mid- north central minnysoda.

me and my son drove to town Saturday night to get some sody-pops,about 14 miles each way,saw 18 deer total, only one of which was a buck.

we saw a horned owl,( I think)seemed in no big hurry to move off.easily got a few pics.

also saw a snowy owl on the drive up,havent seen one of those in several years.

my latest stand sight.
noted these two maple trees had fused together, about 8 ft off the ground.possibly aided by a porcupine,at some point in time.
didnt see it till after we had the stand up.
never saw that ,before.

Congrats Joey on the doe and the Pa'tridges! Looks like you guys had a good time up at camp. We went to the Deer Shack last weekend and flushed probably 20 partridge but couldnt get a good shot at em. We use a dog but I think it flushes them way to far away cause we are yelling at the dog(s) to get back to us all the time. I'd much rather go without the dog(s), myself. We are in area 178, up there and we checked out our stands while bird hunting. Boy does it look poor, maybe a little better than last year because there was a few deer tracks by our stands but the wolves sure need to get thinned out. They are running both the deer and the few moose tracks we saw had wolves following em.
