Sometimes the Ol' hound dog listens and learns something new.

I had the pleasure of teaching a friend the Mystical Powers of MOA (I'm forever grateful Stick) and happy to report he walked into my office this morning grinning ear to ear having just returned from Colorado on a sucessful elk hunt. If you notice in the picture, mounted on his scope is a Leupold Drop Tape, I sighted in his rifle and chronographed the load and using Quick Load calculated his drop and compensation via MOA and afixed it to the tape. When making his cheat sheet I only ran it to 550 yards to keep him honost and within the minimum energy requirements to bring down a bull. Before his trip he was hitting a 350 yard gong and was confident in his rifle.

Opening day of elk season the Old Dog learned an elk is not safe at 550 yards.

Congratulations, my friend.

Nice bull!!

There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor polite, nor popular -- but one must ask, "Is it right?"

MissFire is a firm believe in turrets and long range too. It is pretty easy with the proper amount of practice and a great rest. That is a heck of a bull and one he will never forget.

I took two new hunters out this year and lent them the same 7mm-08 the wife used. They couldn't believe how far they could wack stuff. They filled their tags at pretty long range and are ready to build a nice shooter with turrets. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Flinch

Friends and neighbors, THAT is how your mug is 'sposed to look when photographed with your elk after a fine day. No I've-go-the-huntcamp-constipation scowl for this guy. Way to go all!
