I've always considered Colts to be the be-all, end-all in functionality. Is there something better?

Travis Colt has no magic today though still very good........lots of equally good or better. If you want the best, get KAC, period. MM

I don't know what KAC stands for.

KAC = Knight's Armament Company
But, to be fair, they are 2x+ the price of a 6920.
IMO, as good or better: YMMV
Stag, Sig, Spikes, S&W, Noveske, Daniel Defense, LMT, RRA, Wilson, White Oak, to name a few recognized brands.
Some can be had for same or lower $$$ as a Colt, some are substantially more.
Guess it just depends on what you want to do with it & how much you want to pay.
The Stag 3G is a great buy.

MontanaMan, are you talking SR-15. KAC makes great rifles. I wouldn't mind having one. But, you're talking 3 times what a 6920 goes for.

Oh, Ok. Gotcha.
Same thing with LMT or Noveske. Wouldn't mind at all having one of these, either.

To me and 4-5 or them IIRC Colt is always very very good functionally, it's a carbine gas IIRC, DD has some mid length gas guns, I like them. Noveske is good, uses FN barrels, had RRA and Bushmaster, RRA is just ok, bushmaster blows, never had a spikes but have 3 of their lowers. I have a stag 6.8 bolt it is good, my friend has a stag carbine, no problems. I am saving for another Colt I feel you should always have at least one Colt.

The only AR's I have been truly exposed to are Colts and I have never seen one fail. Ever.

My Colts have never been anything but tough as nails and extremely accurate right out of the box.
And same as Flave, mine haven't failed ever. I put a real nice Leupold scope on the one recently, and it's hosted at least 3 other optics. Lots of rounds through it and NEVER burped. The other one currently wears an ACOG TA31F with a TA51 mount. Just emailed my gunnie on opinions for a new forend for that one this morning. Probably go MWI or Troy again.

I've literally seen hundreds, (probably more like 1,000) and they ummm.... work a bit more than good.

yes and thank you I need to replace my 6720 that I traded for the DD M4V11.
Q. How many AR 15 should you have? A. One more than you have now.
Same applies to Glock 9mms in my neck of the woods.

Several 6720s listed on slick guns, starting at $780 with free shipping, it's tempting me to add a second 6720. I'm still in the market for an AR this year but new to all the terminology. What's the difference btwn "6920" and "6720" Colts? Geno

The main difference is the barrel. The 6920 has the "stepped" M-4 type barrel whereas the 6720's is termed "lightweight" and is straight, about the same diameter as the flash hider.

Thanks, much appreciated.
No difference in the internals then, still mostly "mil -spec" stuff. Bolt carrier group and trigger parts?

A family member recently bought a new Colt 6920 MOE edition. He picked up a box of XM193 and that carbine was shooting that stuff very well.
Very tempting with all the good deals out there lately.

Man you bunch of enablers! I just made a trade deal on a NIB 6920 and I haven't even got to shoot the new PSA i bought last week. After reading a bunch of reviews here and other plcaes I figured having two ARs in the house, one being a Colt aint a bad thing at all.
