Well I sent Bobby up the mountain alone on a four wheeler and my gps that has all the way points of past events. I went out to glass a hayfield. Saw 4 whitetail bucks and I nice bull. Watched the bull all the way into the timber. We are running outta time. Starting to look like tag soup this winter.

Not as dramatic as that, but I whacked a fat little fork horn Saturday morning. I let him amble to within around 30 yards and put a .45 ball through his neck. Lights out. Then when I hiked back to my truck for the cart on which to evacuate him, I discovered I forgot a pretty important thing- line with which to lash him onto the cart. I pulled the laces out of my boots and put on my street shoes, between that and the cargo net from the back of the Jimmy I managed to secure him in a halfassed manner and got him back to the parking spot. Like I said, I always forget something...

Good work! I went through a lot of boot-laces over the years for unintended purposes, often to secure a deer tag.

Ha ha. Yep, but you see my phone is an old flip phone (dinosaur be me) sans camera, and my digital camera went tits-up. I'm not inclined to go through life sharing it in photos with the world via the internet. I guess being surrounded by people with their noses buried in their phones has made me sick of the whole digital circus.

Well, you can see where is at 4:41 a.m. Now you just have to figure out where he'll be at 7:00 a.m. on November 15.

I'm not sure my boot laces are heavy enough for that buck. You'd better lay in a supply of bailer twine.

Can only hope I can time it right when I am in the woods with rifle in hand. For now, it has me hopeful.

The 16.75 inside spread 9 point was 70 yards from my barn eating grass we have kept the mules off of. The buck was all alone. The other field had 8 or nine bucks and does together, we almost missed seeing this one. The Prince of the Forest spike was harvested on public land near a fence line. Everytime a doe would bend over to crawl through the gate the spike would stick it's nose under her tail....start bucking and racing around in circles. I did not want that bruiser genetics going further so on the fifth or sixth lap past my swivel stool I pulled back the bow. Junior saw the movement....slid to a stop to check me out.WHUP!

Here in the east (more or less), I'll be hunting with both of these this year:

Just picked up the T/C New Englander sporting a 50 cal barrel but have a 54 cal on the way. Looking for extra thump on Bambi. Been casting a few 530 PRB too.

I was at the range Friday and the guy next to me looked at the New Englander and said "That goes back a ways". Well not really but I understood his point. I remarked how I like the "old school" stuff. He said he liked the modern stuff. After a bit, I pulled the 99 out and he say's "Man, you really are old school!" As a 48 year old kid, I took it as a compliment. wink

Get used to it. We aren't getting any younger and the "black gun-slinger kids" are growing up and remaining ignorant.
